About Ecstasy (MDMA)
MDMA (3, 4-methylendioxy-methamphetamine), otherwise known as “ecstasy” or “Molly,” is a synthetic psychoactive drug that is similar to amphetamine and mescaline. It’s known for producing feelings of euphoria, emotional warmth, and distortions in sensory and time perception.
Ecstasy is a Schedule I substance; under Section 2925.11, and depending on the quantity, possession of ecstasy is prosecuted as a fifth, fourth, third, second, or first-degree felony offense in Ohio.
To illustrate, a conviction for a fifth-degree felony offense in Ohio is punishable by:
- Six to twelve months incarceration
- $2,500 fine
- Possible community control
The penalties for a fourth-degree felony include between six and eighteen months’ incarceration, and a $5,000 fine. The penalties for a third-degree felony include from one to five years in prison, and a $10,000 fine.
